The founder of the company Schmelzer, Ambros Schmelzer, had the desire to become independent already at a young age. As a result he set up a small handicraft business in the year 1913. Due to the first world war the development of the business has been stopped and restarted again in 1927. At the beginning of the fifties the series production of metal pipes started. The production of pipes is still a core business of Schmelzer.
