In the year 1925, an ambitious young entrepreneur bought 100 hectares of grassland in Pasuparai, Tamil Nadu. At the time, it was considered completely barren. In that day and age, plantations were controlled with an iron fist by the Britons. Neither the barren grassland nor the iron fist of the British Empire, managed to shake the young entrepreneur’s resolve. He not only transformed Pasuparai into one of the highest-yielding tea plantations in the nation, but also became the first Indian to own a plantation company. This visionary’s name was Alfred Vedam Thomas. His vision is the AVT Group.
This indominable entrepreneurial drive enabled AVT to foray into multiple new businesses to meet the ever-evolving needs of markets in India and beyond. Along with the plantations, the company’s offerings now also include consumer products, natural food ingredients, nutraceuticals and leather products.
AVT Group’s ability to recognize opportunities, quickly diversify and emerge as a leader in the chosen business areas, sets the AVT Group a class apart from its contemporaries. By forging strong, reliable and trusted bonds with global names in the industry, like McCormick, Gavia and Kemin Industries, AVT Group built its glorious reputation from the ground up.
A roaring passion for new initiatives, commitment to quality, attention to detail, emphasis on ethical business practices and preference for long-term business partnerships, enabled the AVT Group to not only become a world-class business, but also one of South India’s most respected family enterprises
